What this policy covers
OceanBreeze (oceanbreeze.pro, "the site") is a freshwater aquarium husbandry reference. This page explains what we come into contact with when you visit, how it is used, and what you can ask us to do about it. Browsing the site means you have read this page.
Collection is deliberately minimal. Every species card and build log is a plain reading page: no registration, no login, no user submissions, no comment threads.
What we come into contact with
What you send us: if you write to the address on the contact page, we receive your email address and whatever you put in the message. That is used to answer you and nothing else. It never enters a mailing list and is never passed to a third party for marketing.
What the server records automatically: like any web server, ours writes an access log holding the requested URL, the timestamp, the HTTP status code, browser and device type (User-Agent), the referring page, and the IP address that made the request. We read those logs to debug errors, spot abusive traffic, and estimate overall traffic volume.
Cookies and local storage
The site itself stores one thing: a small technical marker recording whether you prefer English or Chinese, so switching pages does not bounce you back to English. It holds no personal identifiers.
Advertising and analytics partners set their own cookies in your browser for frequency capping, ad delivery and measurement. Those cookies are read and written under each partner's own privacy policy and do not pass through our servers.
You can delete or block cookies in your browser settings. Blocking them still leaves every article readable; you will simply be asked to pick a language again on your next visit.
Third-party advertising: Google AdSense and DoubleClick
This site displays advertising through Google AdSense. As a third-party vendor, Google uses cookies to serve ads on this site.
Google uses the DoubleClick DART cookie, which lets it serve ads based on your visits to this site and to other sites on the internet. Use of the DART cookie is governed by Google's advertising and content network policies.
You can opt out of personalised advertising at Google Ads Settings (adssettings.google.com). You can also manage cookies from self-regulating third-party advertisers at aboutads.info/choices or youronlinechoices.eu. Opting out does not remove advertising; it stops ads being tailored to your browsing history.
Where a browser or network blocks third-party advertising cookies, the ad slots degrade to generic placements and the article text is unaffected.
Analytics
We look at aggregate reporting: total visits, most-read cards, referring domains and device mix. Those reports are aggregated. We do not use them to identify a specific person and we do not attempt to link access logs to any account, because we do not run accounts.
Third-party links
Species cards and build logs link out to external material such as taxonomic databases, equipment makers and aquarium forums. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content, availability or privacy practices. Once you follow a link away, the destination's own policy applies.
What we do not do
We do not sell, rent or trade your email address or your visit records. We do not voluntarily disclose server logs except where legally required, in response to valid legal process, or where necessary to protect the site and its visitors from abuse.
Your rights under GDPR and CCPA
If you are in the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, the GDPR gives you the right to access, correct and erase personal data about you, to restrict or object to processing, to data portability, and to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. Our lawful bases are legitimate interest (keeping the site secure and running) and consent (advertising and analytics cookies).
If you are a California resident, the CCPA/CPRA gives you the right to know what categories of personal information we collect, to request deletion, to request correction, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell personal information.
To exercise any of these, email [email protected]. Because there are no accounts here, in most cases all we hold is an IP address in a server log or an email you sent us. We will do what we can and reply within 30 days.
Children
The site is written for adult hobbyists. It is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us information, write in and we will delete it promptly.
Changes to this policy
When our practices change - a new advertising vendor, a different analytics tool - we update this page and move the "Last updated" date at the top. Material changes are flagged on the home page for a while. If you are about to submit personal information, it is worth rereading this page first.
