What we do
OceanBreeze does one thing: turn freshwater aquarium husbandry into cards you can actually work from. The library runs to 30 species cards and 6 build logs; 10 species cards and 2 build logs are live today, and the rest go up a few at a time each week.
There are no gear reviews with affiliate links and no paywall. Every card is free to read in full. Advertising covers the server bill.
Where the numbers come from
Each parameter is checked against more than one source before it is written down: public ichthyology and aquaculture material for scientific names and natural range, the ranges that recur across husbandry handbooks, and measurements from our own tanks. Figures that vary by collection locality - temperature, pH, adult size - are given as ranges rather than single points.
The "minimum tank" figure on a card is the floor for keeping the fish healthy long-term, not the smallest box it will survive in. Some species look tiny as juveniles and need two or three times that volume as adults; we size to the adult.
Temperament is recorded from what adult fish typically do given adequate space. The same species becomes markedly more aggressive when crowded, and where that matters the card body says so.
How the build logs are written
The six build logs record an actual sequence: the day water went in, the day ammonia and nitrite testing started, the day the first small group of fish was added, the day the filter media was first rinsed. Day ranges are the length we actually took, not a theoretical minimum.
Equipment lists describe the class of gear a tank needs rather than naming brands. Budget bands are given as low, medium or high so you can translate them to your own market.
Corrections and updates
Fish taxonomy keeps moving, and trade names rarely match scientific names cleanly. If a scientific name, temperature range or adult size on a card looks wrong, email the address below with the card URL and whatever you have - a paper, a photograph, or your own husbandry records. Once we have verified it we correct the card and note the change in its revision line.
Every card shows its publication date in the page footer. When a parameter is materially revised we move that date rather than quietly changing the number.
What we do not do
We do not diagnose fish disease, assess your water test results, or work out what is wrong with one specific fish. Those questions belong with an aquatic veterinarian or a local shop that can do microscopy.
